The Dell comes in a 8gb DDR4 ram / 32gb NVMe configuration, with a Pentium Silver J5005. I found one on eBay for £50, it is ideal for trying out proxmox.
The unit as standard has one NVMe which is on a standard PCIe x4 M key socket (SATA based). I will use this as the Proxmox system drive. I want to add another large NVMe SSD to store the Proxmox VMs and some local storage. Here's how...
The unit has a further PCIe x1 M.2 socket with A/E key connector - for a Wi-Fi module on the motherboard. The M.2 interface supports a wide range of signals/protocols on the connector, such as SSDs, Wi-FI, Bluetooth.
It's possible to adapt the A/E keyed socket to become an M keyed socket for an extra NVMe SSD.
N.B. the adapted socket will only offer a single PCIe channel for the SSD interface, rather than the four lanes on a full 'M' interface - as a result performance may suffer.
Using a 'Sintech M.2 NVME SSD to M2 A/E Key WiFi Port with 20cm Cable (M.2 Only Provide PCIe 1X Lane)' from Amazon, it is possible to adapt the M.2 'M' socket.
Ergo the Dell WYSE 5070 can support a second M.2 SATA SSDs albeit on PCIe 3.0 capped at x1 ~1GB/s vs x4 ~4GB/s.
The Samsung 9800 NVMe SSD I used does 3.5GB/s read and 3.0GB/s write if on a x4 lane..
